Mestalla brimming with emotions running high
Relive the emotional events that took place in the run-up to Valencia CF-Real Betis to pay tribute to the victims and those affected by the tragic flash floods
Albert Celades was much happier with his team's display against FC Barcelona than that of their previous league game against RCD Mallorca, and was full of praise for the response from his players in the 2-0 triumph at Mestalla.
The result
"We're very happy, as a victory over FC Barcelona is always very difficult to achieve. We showed once again that our strength is in the collective -being a team. We were missing Rodrigo and Parejo, who are two players in the squad who make a difference, but today we were strengthened as a team and that's great news."
The collective
"We had a very good game -even more so bearing in mind the opposition we were up against. We had an exceptional first half and could have gone into half time more than a goal up, but we couldn't finish off our chances. In the second half we came out with the same mentality, with great strength, and we took a great victory -which was a just reward. It was a great game from everybody."
Refereeing decisions
"I've always been very respectful towards referees. I know that they have a very difficult job, and we don't want to complain about anything, but it's true that today there were some decisions in which we were unlucky. We still have some doubts about a few things, and it wouldn't be a bad thing to receive explanations in order to understand things that we are struggling to understand. But we have to respect referees and keep going."
